Balsam… what does this word mean?

In antiquity, balsam referred to the healing Balm of Gilead. The Balm of Gilead was a salve that was applied to the skin for its healing qualities. In modern times, balsam is used in Arabic, Aramaic and Hebrew languages as a reference to anything consumed or applied in an effort to initiate healing of the human body. Food and water can be balsam. Your favorite outfit can be balsam. Words can be balsam; compliments and apologies can be healing. Lotions and oils can be balsam.

The Balsam Institute for Healing is in the process of creating a collection of balsam resources.  These resources are for members to draw from and apply in their own journey to better health.
