Fever: BITS for lowering fever
It may not feel like it, but fever is actually your body’s ally. By heating the body, many viruses, bacteria and other infections will be destroyed. Suppressing a fever can actually delay the healing processes. As uncomfortable as it might be, don’t try to lower a fever until it reaches:
- 103 degrees for children
- 101 degrees for adults
Cough: BITS for controlling cough
Coughing is your body’s response to inflammation and irritation in the throat, larynx, bronchial tubes or lungs. A cough can be dry and unproductive or wet and productive. Coughing is your body’s way of expelling toxins, bacteria, inflammatory agents such as tobacco smoke, or foreign matters.
Cures from the Kitchen
To relieve a cough:
Grate 1-2 cloves of garlic and mix with 1 tsp of manuka honey and the juice from one lemon. The honey will sooth the tickle and has antibacterial properties. Take a dose every three hours if needed.
Tea made from ginger, peppermint, lemon balm and yarrow will help eliminate toxins, reduce fever and remove infection from the body.
These immune enhancing essential oils can be diffused or added to an epson salt bath:
- Cedarwood
- Cinnamon
- Clove
- Clary Sage
- Grapefruit
- Juniper
- Citrus such as lemon, orange and lime
- Marjoram
- Peppermint
- Tea Tree
